Over the past six months, we've weathered a major storm by doing the things that increase our happiness. While we will still be blogging (blissing) about things we love (because focusing on the lovely side of life was one of the things that made us happy), we will also be sharing some of our can't fail bliss tips.
The first tip is to exercise. Now we can see everyone rolling their eyes because one one is wrestling with the black dogs, there is nothing more annoying than people telling you that all you need to do is go for a five mile run and lift some weights.
But as much as we hate to admit it, those thick-necked gym teachers of our youth may not have been completely misguided in making us work on our flexed arm hang: exercise is a major contributor to a sense of well-being.
For those of us with an allergy to spandex, we've found some ways to make exercise slightly less painful.
1. TV. We adore bad reality shows. We love to do weights or hit the treadmill while watching Denise Richards in It's Complicated or that show with that ex-Playmate Kendra. They provide some good inspiration (I imagine that watching those shows while eating a bag of Doritos would make one feel sort of bad.) And, let's face it, it's not like if you miss some dialogue you lose the plot.
2. Weird hours. Our kids are more likely to wake up if we work out in the morning than if we work out at night. And let's face it, what else is there to do between 9 and 10pm?
3. Wear workout clothing to bed. When we do want to get up early in the morning, we wear our lululemons to bed. When we wake up, even if we are totally lazy, we still feel compelled to do something active.
4. We Wii. We've never liked video games but decided to get our kids a Wii. They love it and we like Wii Active. We're not sure it's the best workout on earth but it keeps us moving for half an hour which is not a bad thing.
5. Bad exercise is better than no exercise. Even if all we can bother to do is to walk half-heartedly for 20 minutes, we walk half-heartedly for 20 minutes.
6. Enlist the kids. Dancing to Green Day like the penguins in Surf's Up burns a lot of calories we imagine.
What do you do to stay active?
What brand/type of treadmill do you have and where did you buy it? I really want to get one and the choices are just overwhelming me.
