Anyone who reads Bliss Notes on a regular basis knows that I basically live in my bathtub. I really do find it the most fabulous place to de-stress and until I have my salt water spa installed in the backyard (our neighbour has one and it's heaven), it's my 6 foot by three foot patch of heavenly real estate.
In our old house, we had a double whirlpool bath tucked in under a gabled window with chandelier overhead. It was fancy. But frankly, I'm every bit as happy with my current garden-variety bathtub since drawing a bath seems less like an event and I therefore do more frequently (the only place I get picky is depth. I like a deep tub. There was that period of time when builders used tubs that held only about a teacup of water. I'll sacrifice the width and length of a tub any day of the week as long as it's deep. I dream of owning a soaker tub like this one day.
I used to like a lot of stuff surrounding a bathtub but now I like things simple. Currently, I have one candle simply because I'm too lazy to move it elsewhere. I have stacks of magazines and a juicy novel. I have a conch shell brought home rescued from a sandbar near Norman's Cay on a sailing trip through the Bahamas a lifetime ago. And I have jars of dead sea salt.
I can't live wihout my sea salt crystals. My personal favourite is Ahava Dead Sea Bath Crystals - the unscented variety. I swear they have healing powers. Cuts heal more quickly. I feel more relaxed. I sleep better. I'm not sure if it's in my head but the warning labels about using the product if you high blood pressure indicate they must do something. You can pick up a big giant tub (like, the size of a Kia car) at Winners for under $20. I simply draw a hot bath, toss in about a cup full of salt, and hang out reading magazines or a book until the water begins to cool. Sometime I do my nails. It's sort of awesome.
In other times of economic hardship, they've referred to a lipstick index. I'm thinking a bath salt index is in order.
