This weekend, my kids spotted pinwheels at the grocery store and had to have them. My daughter was drawn by their ability to spin and the maple leaf design ("Oh look, it's the leaf of Canada," she shouts excitedly everytime she spots a leaf on a tree or a flag). My son was draw to the stick, pure and simple. So we took the pointy ends off them and handed them over.
But how cute - a three and a half year old and an almost two year old holding pinwheels and smiling. They were quite popular with the cashiers and I found myself wondering why you rarely saw kids running around with them anymore and why they had been relegated to the status of garden ornament.
Of course that was before I got bashed in the eye with one. Before my daughter rechristened it a "bashing stick" and had it confiscated.
And now I suspect that the pinwheel fell out of fashion around the same time that the expression "it's always fun until somebody loses an eye" took hold.
With a 2 and half year old I can totally relate! Anything in the hands of a toddler can be deemed a weapon LOL. Great blog!

I believe the full quote is "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye...and then it's a sport."

they never last long at our house either. Mostly because I got tired of hearing "Mom, make it spin", after all I only have so much hot air!
