And the winner is...
Today, I made it to Kew Gardens Park in the Beach and man is that a great spot. It's clean. The equipment is new. The sand is free of the tiny bits of broken glass at other parks that always manages to work its way into the underside of my big toe. There are no questionable types in short shorts. I got street parking right out front (well, of course I did, I'm doing The Secret) and had time to grab a coffee (they still have independents down there so I was not forced to hit Starbucks aka land of the bone dry and yet always sold out croissants (and yes, I'm a little bitter)) before meeting La Marla and Kate.
The kids loved it. The shady, gated, tree-lined playground is fabulous for the little ones with a big play structure for older kids. And the wading pool, while freezing cold (as are they all at 10:30am), was in a lovely sunny spot; I'm sure by afternoon it would be perfect. The lifeguards are totally on the ball (The Dude fell down in the water and the lifeguard was right there to make sure everything was OK).
Really it was heavenly. Although I am rather in love with my local park because it makes for such an effortless afternoon, I have to say that this one justifies the drive.
And these days, that's saying something.
Yeah, Kew Beach is great...going there tomorrow...can take a break and hit the Beaches library or walk down to the board walk as well...and sneak in a little shopping...
High Park Playground and zoo is a good option to...worth an outing..

I used to live up the street from Kew Gardens on Wheeler Ave just north of Queen. The Roastery was one of my fave coffee shops.
Still waiting for Long Branch to gentrify a little more to get even a third rate Roastery type joint as well as some decent parks.
No problem finding parking here!LOL
